She broke the rules while wearing a corset. She plowed through the pop culture blonde bombshell stereotype like a Mack Truck. Now thousands of girls run around wearing her bangs, sporting halter tops and cuffed jeans, while tattoos of her curvaceous body and impish smile peek out from under their long, sleek hair. Never a legend in the traditional sense, but a legend just the same.
Rest well, Ms. Page.

I went back and read some biographies on Bettie and it’s said that she suffered from schizophrenia and was in and out of mental institutions for much her adult life. Man that’s hard. But I guess her later years were more peaceful.

Sqt — She dropped out of public view, (re)discovered Christianity, and tried to live a normal life. I guess she got the guilt, at some point.Christina — I love that innocent smile, the one that doesn’t go any further than her lips.Miladysa — You’re welcome.

Wow. I heard she lived her later years pretty mysteriously. She is quite the doll.

I never realized she was still alive. I guess I always thought that such a glamorous, yet brazen woman wouldn’t fade away quietly.

Rick — She was Bettie Page, former pinup/fetish model from the fifties whose controversial allure once sparked a Senate committee investigation. For a while she was the embodiment of wicked desire, the symbol of everything a woman wasn’t “supposed” to be, and then she disappeared from the limelight. But, even now, after she has wholly disappeared from the world, her influence remains strong within the counter-culture set where she is revered as an icon of fashion, beauty, and rule-breaking.

I’m not even sure who she is or was, but what a lovely tribute.

Charles — It’s a good one. She was something else, wasn’t she?Laughingwolf — Yeah. I’m sad, too.Steve — It’s all in my master plan to break you.Lana — Many nice, good people will put up posts like this for you. One drooling dude in a kilt, a Union Jack bikini top and sparkly gold platform fishbowl boots will put it up for me.
